Fishing for Fun

Fishing for Fun - June 18

Campers entering 3rd through 8th grade, come on down to the creek and learn all about the amazing world of fish and get “hooked” on fun!    Activities will include fishing, shore seining, fish games, crafts, and more!

Birds of a Feather - June 22

Campers entering Grades 3-8, this camp is something to “Tweet” about!  Come learn about the birds that call Charles County home!  Activities will include birdwatching in a variety of habitats, a bird show, games, crafts, and more!

Raptors Rule

  Raptors Rule - June 23

  Campers entering Grade 3-8 are you interested in birds of prey (raptors)?   Then this camp is for you!  We will learn about what makes raptors a unique group of birds and explore local raptors in the area.  We will look for wild raptors and their nests in different habitats.  In addition, we will feed and meet out captive raptors and dissect an owl pellet.

Hippie Camp

Hippie Camp - June 24 & 25

Campers entering Grades 5-8, come on out to Nanjemoy and enjoy a peaceful, relaxed, nature-focused experience.  Mother Nature will be our canvas and our guide.  Campers will be able to express themselves through crafts letting their creativity and originality shine.  Crafts will include tie-dye, art with natural objects, making wind chimes and more.  Campers will need to bring a light colored, pre-washed cotton t-shirt that they can tie-dye.

    Pollinator Camp - August 4

  This camp is for primary campers and their adult.  We will explore the world of pollinators through outside exploration and indoor crafts.  The camp runs from 9-12 pm.

Puppets by Nature - August 5 

Calling all crafty students entering Grades 3-8!  Join us for a puppet themed day camp.  Campers will create puppets from natural and repurposed objects and then perform a show with and for fellow campers!

Wizards of the Wild Harry Potter - August 10 & 11

Calling all fantasy fans entering 4th -8th grade!  Join us for a two-day wizarding adventure filled with imagination, teamwork, and magical outdoor fun!  This camp is perfect for Harry potter fans who love creative play, immersive storytelling, and collaborative challenges.

Wetland Wanders - August 12 & 13

Calling all nature explorers entering 2-6 grade!  Spend two engaging days discovering the outdoors through hands-on science and adventure.  Campers will explore marshes, ponds, and the river, learn about local wildlife, and stay active with guided hikes, shore seining, and water games.

NCEEC hosted 5 summer day camps in 2024:

Shelter

Survival Day Camp
Campers learned skills designed to help them survive.  Activities included primitive shelter building, fire making, archery, orienteering and more!

This camp had something to “Tweet” about!  Campers experienced activities like birdwatching in a variety of habitats, a bird show, dissecting an owl pellet, games, crafts, and more!

Canoe Day Camp 
Campers joined us for a paddle ‘sesh’ as we explored Nanjemoy Creek and the surrounding wetlands.     Activities included watershed activities, paddle/canoe practice, wetland exploration by canoe, and canoe races.

Nature is awesome…simply take a moment to look around.  Some of the best art ideas are inspired by nature.

Despite the rainy day, campers had a great time learning all about fish.

Art is Everywhere! 

Land art
    Campers explored their creative side using nature as their inspiration.  They created ephemeral land art, made paper beads and used those beads to make snakes.

And, 1 amazing 5 day camp: 

 Yuckology! 

Campers got messy in this camp making oobleck and slime, exploring the smell and feel of marsh mud.  They also explored the concept of decomposition through composting and a visit to the landfill.
