Raptors Rule

 Raptors Rule – June 16

 Grade 3-8

If you have ever been interested in birds of prey (raptors), then this camp is for you!  We will learn about what makes raptors a unique group of birds and explore local raptors in the area.  We will look for wild raptors and their nests in different habitats.  In addition, we will feed and meet out captive raptors and dissect an owl pellet.  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather – June 17

Grade 3-8

This camp is something to “Tweet” about!  Come learn about the birds that call Charles County home!  Activities will include birdwatching in a variety of habitats, a bird show, games, crafts, and more!  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Wonderful Wildlife

 Wonderful Wildlife - June18

 Grade 4-6

 Wildlife comes in all shapes and sizes – it can be big or small, slimy or soft, bumpy or smooth, fuzzy or scaly.  Campers will explore the world of reptiles, mammals, birds and insects.  They will get to meet a live snake, bird and bee and learn about their place in the environment.  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Eco Art Explorers

Eco-Art Explorers - June 20

Grade 5-8

A simple walk in the woods can inspire beautiful creations.  Campers will soak up nature and create crafts inspired by what they see in both the woods and a small pond.  Campers will make leaf animals, plarn (plastic yarn) flowers, pony bead frogs and more.  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Powered by Nature – June 23

Grade 3-8

An eco inspired STEM/makers camp.  Campers will explore solar, wind, and mechanical energy through building a solar bug, wind spinner, solar balloon, and a mysterious repurposed comeback can.  Students will also build a solar oven to prepare a solar s’more!  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.   Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Survival Camp

Survival Camp – June 24

Grade 5-8

Do you have what it takes to survive the great outdoors?  If so, please join us at Nanjemoy Creek on June 24th for our survival inspired day camp.  Activities will include primitive shelter building, fire making, archery and more!  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.   Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Fishing for Fun

Fishing for Fun – June 25

Grade 3-8

Come learn all about the amazing world of fish and get “hooked” on fun!  Activities will include fishing, shore seining, fish games, crafts, and more!  Students will need to pack a lunch, water bottle, swim attire w/water shoes and a towel.  It is preferred that they have their swim attire on under their clothes to minimize the time to change.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:00pm.

Canoe Camp

Canoe Camp – June 26

Grade 6-12

Note:  This camp runs from 8:30-1:30

Join us for a paddle ‘sesh’ as we explore Nanjemoy Creek and the surrounding wetlands.  Activities will include watershed activities, paddle/canoe practice, wetland exploration by canoe, and canoe races.  Students will need to pack a lunch, water bottle, swim attire w/water shoes and a towel.  It is preferred that they have their swim attire on under their clothes to minimize the time to change.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-1:30pm.

Habitat Explorers

Habitat Explorers Camp – August 5

Grade 3-8

Explore all the habitats that make up the Nanjemoy Creek campus!  Campers will discover what organisms are present in the marsh, meadow, forest, ponds, and creek.  We’ll explore food webs, biodiversity, and more!  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.   Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:30pm.

Eco Crafters

Eco-Crafters – August 6

Grade 5-8

Some discarded items are just waiting to be turned into treasures.  Campers will learn about upcycling (reusing a discarded object in such a way as to create an object of higher quality or value).  This camp will focus on trash and ways to keep it out of landfills.  Campers will create a mosaic flowerpot using bits of broken plates and pottery.  They will explore the world of worms and then plant a native plant using soil and worm compost in their pots.  We will also explore how to create a work of art using discarded items.  Students should bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for outdoor activities.  Drop off and pick up is at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.  Camp runs from 8:30-3:30pm.

Art is Everywhere!

    Campers explored their creative side using nature as their inspiration.  They created  ephemeral land art, made paper beads and used those beads to  make snakes.

And, 1 amazing 5 day camp: 

 Yuckology! 

Campers got messy in this camp making oobleck and slime, exploring the smell and feel of marsh mud.  They also explored the concept of decomposition through composting and a visit to the landfill.
